Material Time/ Work Time/ Life Time

Reykjavik Arts Festival
Isafjordur, Iceland.

The installation was realised in the regional cultural center of a small isolated village in northern Iceland. It consisted of a 150m long, 1m wide tunnel-like maze, blindingly white, painted wood-passage, stepped or sloped in sections, with many disorienting turns.

Outside the construction, a sound was spread through 4 surround-systems. All recordings for the soundpiece were made inside the tunnel. Whereas the construction was made out of plywood, it functioned as a magnifier of it’s own
frequencies. It created an ambiance, filling up the space between the tunnel construction and the outer architecture.

It was as if the guest had slipped into a time zone or a parallel space, since it’s true configuration was so little evident from the exterior.

The initial idea of the tunnel was polished through conversations with Anne Kockelkorn (architect) but the construction itself is the result of co-operation with Neulantvanexel. The soundscape was created by Icelandic artist Darri Lorenzen.
